On 17th– 19thAugust 2011, PPR ran it’s first ever Summer School, entitled Tools for Action.
The purpose of the Summer School was to share the experience of using PPR’s distinct approach to achieve change with other groups and organisations, and explore how it can be applied on diverse issues across different jurisdictions.
Participants joined the summer school from a range of disciplines and locations including Scotland and many parts of Ireland. Groups working on youth issues, unemployment, domestic violence, travellers rights, and migrant rights were all represented. Topics for discussion included ‘Human Rights and Change’, ‘Rights as Relationships’, ‘Responses from Power’, and ‘Enforcing Accountability’.
The presentations, workshops, and discussions were lively and explored through case studies of PPR’s work, how innovative approaches to organising and policy work can achieve sustainable social and economic change for those in most need. Those taking part expressed their admiration for the range of existing groups working with PPR and were keen to explore more fully how PPR’s approach could be replicated on their own issues.
PPR is now looking forward to following up with participants individually.
