PPR have expressed serious concerns about Department for Social Development plans for the reform of the Social Fund. Intended as a safety net for those in need, the proposals around the provision of goods, income threshold and maximum loan threshold risk further stigmatising the most vulnerable and entrenching poverty.

PPR's work with the Right to Work; Right to Welfare Group also demonstrates that the Department's proposals around eligibility need reviewed. The Right to Work; Right to Welfare campaign has highlighted the arbitrary and unfair nature of the imposition of benefit sanctions,  yet the Department's plans propose to remove eligibility for support to anyone who is under sanction.

PPR have strongly recommended that the Department review their proposals and carry out a full Equality Impact Assesment.
